Not so good news

Well, I was looking forward to having Barb home by now, but the weather made it not so. Once Barb got to Buffalo, she found that her plane had been delayed 3 hours. Instead of landing in Dallas at 5.30, she would now land in Dallas at 8.00, meaning she would miss the 6.30 connection to good ol’ College Station. There is a 9.00 connecting flight, but with the way the weather is in Dallas, she wasn’t guaranteed to make it for that connection either. So, the airline put on a flight tomorrow morning. My mom went out to Buffalo to pick Barb up and here we are… empty-handed.

So, one more day. Hopefully she makes it tomorrow…

Food for Thought

While surfing this morning (on the internet, that is), I ran across the following from Rick:

Personally, I don’t have the guts to follow Jesus, so I often settle for being a Christian.

Made me stop and think for a while. Thought it might do the same for you (if you’re interested, that is).

I think I’ll keep my comments to myself.

Technological Update

Well, folks, you might have noticed the little note in the sidebar proclaiming ‘COMING SOON! DAVEANDBARB.CA’. We just wanted to let you know a few things concerning that.

First, we have registered our own domain (daveandbarb.ca), for a variety of reasons, none of which I will expound on here. How does this affect you? Well, for one, you no longer need to try to remember that overly-complex daveandbarbblog.blahblahblah address. (Yes, we know it was complicated.) From now on, typing ‘daveandbarb.ca‘ into your browser’s address bar should get you where you want to go. For now, that address will simply take you to our weblog. In the future (that is, when we get around to it), we plan to create a much bigger website with additional information and pictures. Also, much of the stuff taking up the right sidebar will be expanded and have their own pages. Most of the information will be static (i.e., will not be frequently updated), but we will still maintain the blog, which will be accessed from that future website.

(Sidenote: you may be wondering why we are going to all the trouble to create a website for ourselves (or, you may not be wondering, but I’m going to tell you anyway). One overarching reason is that, given our foreseeable future, a web address will be our most static address. Consequently, we are getting in the habit of giving out our web address to people instead of some land address since the website will always contain up-to-date information. There are other reasons as well, but maybe I’ll talk about them later.)

A second way that this affects you is email address changes. Up until now, Barb has been using an increasingly-difficult-to-use Hotmail account; but this will no longer be the case. Barb’s new email address is barb@daveandbarb.ca. Please update your address books to reflect this change. (She plans to continue checking her hotmail account periodically, but will begin to phase out use of this address.)

Also, some of you may still be trying to reach me at my Hotmail account (wiensbd@hotmail.com). I am no longer checking that account; it has become too much of a hassle. Instead, you can use either my TAMU account (wiensd@tamu.edu) or the new and improved dave@daveandbarb.ca. My primary address will continue to be the TAMU address, but only for 10 more months.

So there you have it. A needlessly long explanation providing you insight into some of the technological changes taking place around here.

One week to go!

So, it was my birthday yesterday (28, for those who are counting). Thanks to those who phoned, emailed, or snailmailed. It ended up being fine (although having Barb around would have been better). I worked at the office most of the day. A couple friends took me out for dinner and drinks to a fish taco joint, which was great. I’ll also be celebrating with few other friends on Thurday. To be honest, I’m not sure there would have been a big to-do even if Barb was around; I don’t usually get all riled up about my birthday.

Barb comes home in one more week! To the skeptics: I’m holding it together (so far). This time around (we did a two-week-apart stint at this time last year) I actually know a few people here, which makes single life a little easier. The apartment is still pretty clean (I’m actually never there to make a mess), I’m eating OK (I’ve been eating out more than usual), and most of the day I’m not too lonely (I’m working too much to think about it). But, life is certainly better when Barb is around, so even though things have been alright the last week, they will dramatically improve on August 8th.
