Moving Day

Tomorrow is moving day. We plan to leave St. Catharines around 6.30 am, which should get us to AA sometime between 11 and 12. We’ll try to get as much of our stuff moved from the storage unit to the apt as we can tomorrow and if we have any left over, we’ll get that Wed. morning. Our phone should be up and running by Wed. evening, so if you can’t get through to us before then, it’s because we’re not hooked up yet.

We’ll report back when the dust has settled later this week.

Immigration Hurdles Cleared

Barb and I went to the border at Lewiston, NY to process our immigration paperwork. We’re now cleared for entry. While we were there, we processed the paperwork needed to import our vehicle, so the Jeep is all ready to go as well. So everything should go smoothly Tuesday morning when we actually move. Wish us luck!

New Number, too

We know our new Ann Arbor phone number now. You can find it here. And remember, you can still call our College Station number. (We’ve kept this number so that our friends in B/CS can continue to call us local. If we discover that we don’t receive many calls to our College Station number, we’ll dispose of it. Then you’ll have to call us long distance.)

New Address

For those of you who are interested in updating your address books, we now know our new mailing address. However, as noted here, we don’t post our mailing address online for security reasons. So, if you’d like to get a hold of our new address, email us and we’ll send it to you.

While on the subject of new contact info, we don’t yet know our Ann Arbor phone number. However, you can continue to call us at our College Station number, since we’re using a VoIP service that allows us to keep that number. We’ll post the new number once we know it.

We’re Back!

Actually, we’ve been back for a while now. We’ve simply been lazy with regards to posting. Part of the reason for this is that our computer is getting bogged down, which makes posting more time consuming than it used to be. Because it takes so long (and can be frustrating), it’s hard to find motivation to post. So, if posting is a little sparse over the next few weeks, you’ll know why. But don’t worry; we’ll be getting a new computer within a month, so we should get back up to speed then. And after Aug. 1, I’m sure we’ll have lots to write about.

Anyway, our family vacaction to Sauble Beach was good. The weather was mostly overcast for the first few days, so we spent those days reading and playing poker (a new hobby of mine). Once the sun came out, it was time to head for the beach! The girls spent a lot of time getting some sun (Barb burned herself) and the nephews spent a lot of time playing in the sand. Overall, there wasn’t a whole lot of action during the week. Just R&R.

Anyway, we move into our new place in Ann Arbor in a week. We’re looking forward to a new adventure, the chance to explore a new community! We’ll let y’all know how it goes!

Gone to the cottage

We’re leaving for Sauble Beach tomorrow and will be gone for a week, so don’t expect much new from us over the next seven days. Hopefully we’ll have some pics to post when we get back. Enjoy your weeks!

Big Thanks!

Thanks to all who sent birthday wishes! You are all very thoughful!

Jeep For Sale

As we mentioned earlier, my parents’ old Jeep Cherokee has taken the place of our trusty ol’ cholomobile (see picture above). We’ve decided to try and sell the Jeep before we move to Ann Arbor and then using the money to buy ourselves a car that is a little more fuel efficient, especially since the drive between A2 and Niagara will take up a bit of gas. So if anyone knows of someone who might want a 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee, point them our way. (We can be reached at 905-646-2431.)

Happy 4th of July

Happy 4th of July to all our States-side friends! We Canadians just enjoyed a holiday long weekend as Sat. was Canada Day.

We (Barb and I) spent the long weekend at an international Wiens reunion. The call went out to all the descendents of Jacob and Liese Wiens (my great-grandparents) to gather here in Niagara. We had approx. 150 visitors (out of approx. 700 family members I’m told) join the 3 day gathering from all over Canada and parts of South America. Our time was spent reacquainting ourselves with distant family, or in many cases (for me) meeting family for the first time. We played games, ate, laughed, sang (or listened to) traditional family songs, and recalled the stories of grace that define our family’s experience. Everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves.

By the way, today is also Barb’s birthday, so Happy Birthday to her!
